Winter is a tough time for those who enjoy camping-based adventures and that have little kids. From our experience, little kids like to run and play, and extremely cold weather and the mountains combine to create an inhospitable environment for play. However, that doesn’t mean adventure gets cancelled, it just means a different type of play is in order. For us, it means transitioning to exploration of locales through condo rentals, short off-road trips, and slicing the ski slopes.
So far, we’ve stayed in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and stayed at a vacation rental right on the ski slope. Our older son, EJ, loved playing around on the ski slopes on his skis, and we made sure to enjoy the takeout options available around us from various restaurants The Christmas lights lent the perfect backdrop for photos of Sarge, our Jeep Gladiator. We enjoyed watching the snowflakes fall around us in the beautiful mountain scenery. Of course, it was nice to retreat to our warm and centrally located condo!
We have also ventured to Copper Mountain, Colorado where we stayed in yet another condo rental that was conveniently located to the slopes. This time, EJ got to ski quite a bit more and got to develop a skillset that will continue to be sharpened through continued ski trips. Thanks to more relaxed pandemic restrictions, we got to actually eat at restaurants in the nearby mountain town of Frisco. We enjoyed delicious food, good conversation, and a view of the beautiful snow-covered peaks. The skiing was magnificent, and Carolynn discovered new gear (skis and apparel) really elevated the experience.
We didn’t want our winter adventures to forsake the fun of off roading, so we recently took Sarge to the iconic Switzerland Trail, only to find there to be nominal amounts of snow. We enjoyed a phenomenal day of beautiful views, brisk weather, and knowing that the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon’s limits were nowhere near being tested. Plenty of pictures were taken, and our daughter Stella was squealing with delight over the bumpy sections of the trail.
As always, we try to share our love of the Outdoor Adventure Defined, and are around for any questions or comments! #jeep #jeepife #zerotohero
