I sit here writing this as I await new tires to be mounted onto Cruz, a Forest River E-Pro E19BH travel camper. We have loved Cruz since we picked her up last year in the midst of the pandemic.
I have seen a huge shift in the mindset of everyone around us- the desire to be outside and enjoying every moment. The pandemic has forced us to re-evaluate how we interact with our surroundings and others, and many have found the outdoors to be the amazing place we’ve known it to be all along.
I am a huge automotive nerd- in addition to our Jeep Gladiator and our camper, I also have a 1997 BMW M3. The BMW is a great canyon carver, and connects you to the road unlike modern vehicles. However, I find myself piqued by the advent of electric vehicles and their potential in the world of overlanding and 4-Wheeling.
Will there be a day when towing a camper, setting up base camp, and hitting the rocks will all be done in the gentle whir of electric motors? I believe the answer is a resounding yes. How fantastic would it be to utilize solar panels for charging your vehicle platform while off-grid, eliminating the need to carry additional fuel or planning fuel stops? A shiver goes down my spine!
Jeep and Rivian are working on their electric solutions to an off-road capable platform. I think the Wrangler 4xE is very interesting, and it will be fun to see how the Jeep faithful respond. Change is always tough, but I sit here knowing the new tires on my camper will be better in every respect than the stock equipment. Technology allows us to advance beyond our wildest imagination- and our drive to explore will continue on!
